Job Summary/Basic Function

POSITION SUMMARY

The Manufacturing Engineering Technician reports to the Chairperson of the Department, who reports to the Dean of the College, who reports to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. The general duties include overseeing the entire operation, maintenance, and supply of all laboratories in the Manufacturing Engineering Department while ensuring proper training and safety of students and faculty.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Manufacturing Engineering Technician will:

• Provide laboratory housekeeping, maintenance, safety, and security in the Manufacturing Engineering Department.

• Maintain files for operating and maintenance manuals of major equipment.
.
• Monitor the usage of equipment, tools, and shop supplies.

• Order laboratory supplies

• Assist in preparation of (ABET) Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology and future (ATMAE) Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering accrediting self studies .

• Provide instruction for students and faculty in the safe operation of departmental equipment.

• Supervise work study students and/or student research assistants as needed.

• Participate in departmental planning meetings.

• Take a lead role in establishing and enforcing laboratory policies and procedures.

• Update and maintain laboratory computers with needed software support and be a liaison between the department and the Information Technology Office.

• Perform other duties and responsibilities as determined by the departmental chair.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

The Manufacturing Engineering Technician must/must be:

• Dedicated to ensuring excellence in laboratory and curriculum delivery, development, and continuous improvement.
.
• Possess full knowledge of modern machine shop practices and manufacturing process operations.

• Capable of providing laboratory instruction to students and faculty.

• Establish and maintain good relationships with vendors and customers

• Able to be agile with various project, scheduling, and other work demands.

Minimum Qualifications

• Appropriate credentials (certificate or degree) demonstrating competence in the manufacturing disciplines including graphical design, manufacturing processes, and computer numerical control (CNC) programming.

• Minimum of five years of industrial experience in hands-on CAD/CAM/CNC programming.

• Experience in fundamental manufacturing and assembly processes.

• Experience in the use of CAD/CAM software packages.

• Must possess good oral, written, and interpersonal communications for skills training of students and faculty on equipment and operations.

Preferred Qualifications

• A.S. or B.S. degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering or Engineering Technology.

• Minimum of five years of industrial experience in hands-on CAD/CAM/CNC programming and operation of the Feeler VMP-580 Machining Center, SWI Track 1630 Turning Center, Sodick A320D EDM machine or able to acquire these skills in a short period of time.

• Experience in fundamental manufacturing and assembly processes. Hands-on skills in mechanical, electrical, and systems integration, maintenance and troubleshooting.

• Experience in Solid Edge, Unigraphics NX, and MasterCam software packages.

• Possess good oral, written, and interpersonal communications for skills training of students and faculty on equipment and operations.
