Job Summary/Basic Function

Central State University is seeking candidates for the position of Community and Economic Development Specialist. The selected individual will be expected to help develop small business and agribusiness enterprises for under-served areas and work with local community and business organizations to advance these efforts. This individual will be responsible for developing programs targeting new, nontraditional, under-served and hard-to-reach audiences.

Minimum Qualifications

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

-Use innovative and evidence-based strategies along with cutting edge technologies to design, develop, train, market and evaluate programs for a robust extension education program across the state of Ohio.
-Serve as program leader for County Agents in implementating local community economic development programs.
-Promote effective working and team relationships, practice extension scholarship by conducting needs assessments, identifying priorities and measuring program impact.
-Serve as an educational advisor and liaison for the CSU Extension and the University to appropriate public issue and community development program-related organizations. Represent CSU Extension with federal, state and local agencies and educational institution at regional and national levels.
-Be active in Extension and service activities at the state level; pilot new approaches and advance existing techniques in collaboration with personnel from other states where applicable; identify potential industry leaders and help develop their capacity to accomplish community and industry goals.
-Report results at professional meetings and in professional publications.
-Facilitate delivery of training courses related to business development.
-Secure extramural funding through grants, contracts, industry-supported partnerships, user fees, and cost recovery to support mission critical programming.
-Provide entrepreneurial/small business consulting services.
-Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with clientele, stateholders, producers, OSU, agri-business, community leaders, Extension Leadership Councils, and appropriate agents and specialists to identify and prioritize issues, problems, and opportunities.
-Responsible for recruiting volunteers to enhance and expand the community and economic development program.
-Represent and maintain a high ethical and professional standards.
-Responsible for assuring compliance with civil rights and affirmative action policies.

Preferred Qualifications

-This position requires an earned doctorate degree in Community Development, Community Economic Development, Business, Public Administration, Economics, Sociology, Organizational Management, or related years of experience.
-The position will require some travel (including overnight stays) and evening/weekend work and activities.
-Demonstrated understanding of agribusiness, farm management, business development, community development.
-Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
